Adopt a Multimedia: Daniel Berehulak

Daniel Berehulak is a photojournalist he won pultizer prize in 2017 for the category Breaking News Photography. He had published and worked for the New york times he published some article to the New york times. He is also a freelancer photographer, he is also from Australia.

In the article it shows on of his projects he did. Berehulak went to the philipines and he talked about what had happnened during his experience there. Something that caught my eye and had me impressed was how in the article he got secruity footage of people dumping a body outside of a private school.Screen Shot 2018-04-28 at 8.42.19 PM.pngThis help show people helping each other no matter how big the tragedy. Something I wish he changed how the people are far away and move them closer and have the damage as the background to show no matter how big the tragedy people will help each other out. This is from his collection Nepal Earthquake.Screen Shot 2018-04-28 at 3.08.47 PM.pngThis photo shows a frame with in a frame which is what Brian Poulter has told us about frame within a frame. It shows all the people crammed into a tiny space. It also shows people are wearing yellow and those people are on the outside most of them are on the outside. Because there is no body just blood there is no sense in what happened and you are just looking confused at the photo wondering what happened. This is from his collection Philippines Drug War.Screen Shot 2018-04-28 at 3.10.31 PM.pngIn this photo it shows emotion of seeing a body. The tears the girl is ripping from her face help set the mood and show what people are feeling. There is also a red light coming from somewhere and it gives a different lighting to the photo which helps. It is emotional and helps pull people in. This is from his collection Philippines Drug War.Screen Shot 2018-04-28 at 7.59.22 PM.pngI like how he took this because he is from high grounds and is shows how powerful the water is and how much people are struggling towards this. It also shows that people are trying to help even though the water is so powerful. This is from the collecting Floods in Pakistan. Screen Shot 2018-04-28 at 7.59.39 PM.pngThis is one the best pictures I have seen in the picture the light is behind them and it is perfect lighting. Then there is also two people walking in the water and it is interesting because it shows the light behind them and they are in dark. There could also be a message from that photo which is that they are in the dark and the light is close by them. The light is catching up to them. This is from the Floods in Pakistan.Screen Shot 2018-04-28 at 8.30.37 PM.pngThe way the people are looking at that photo shows that they have seen this before and they do not look surprised at all. In another it shows do not cross tape but in this there is none and I think that is fishy. It shows how different officers take a crime and what they do. This is from his collection Philippines Drug War.Screen Shot 2018-04-28 at 8.30.47 PM.pngI kind of like this photo because of graphic it is. It shows how serious this is and it also shows the police doing there job. The main thing is the accident and how he got that really clear helps the picture. It paints a picture of what happened and it shows that someone might have hit them because there are people who are writing some stuff down and it could be a sketch because he is looking over to the outside of the picture. This is from his collection Philippines Drug War.Screen Shot 2018-04-28 at 8.30.57 PM.pngThis one is good because of the of how the rain is on the lens and helps set the mood and helps show that is it also put an emphasis on the rain and makes it 3D almost.  The alley kind of separates everything and there is almost like two sides to everything. One side has light the other is a little bit darker. This is from his collection Philippines Drug War.

Overall,

What I like about Berehulak work is the ideas he come up with. He gets to visit different countries and takes pictures of the world they live. I like the process behind every photo and how he takes them. They are all different angles and they each tell a different story between each one of them. Something I have seen through his photo is mostly a dark side. Most of the photos are dark lighting and it is a sad and dark photo. Some of the photos show a crime scene and show the bodies of the photos. It shows the reality of the streets they leave in where they see this on the daily. Another thing that Berehulak does that I like is how he gets the emotions. He gets people screaming or in tears when they see their dead ones. It helps put in the pictures I perspective it helps bring emotion to some of the picture. He also incorporates what Brian Poulter has taught in many of his classes and helps the photos. For one of the photos he gets on people’s height level when they are squatting. Most of the other photos he has and the same height and I wish he could switch back and forth. His winning work was a trip he took to the Philippines and he got it published in The New York Times.

I think he is a good multimedia person. I say that because the pictures he shows you everything.  He shows what the people go through on a daily basis and the information he got is incredible. He also got a video of people putting two dead bodies out and he got it from a security camera and put it in the article to show what the people did. It is hard sometimes to get the video and for him to get it, is surprising for me. He also got a lot of quotes of people he talked to.

I really liked his photos they convey messages and they are beautiful pictures no matter how big the tragedy. The way he takes the photos and what he captures is amazing. There is so much going on in the photos and it is amazing. It shows a story and a message.

I would not change any of the photos except for one and that is the blood in the house I wish he got a different view for that one. I wish he got more of a different view because it is blood in two spots but everything is so distracting in the photo that it is hard to tell. Everything else is great about his work.

I believe he deserved that award because of so much that happened that he had to witness and it had to be hard to see dead bodies everyday. Seeing some people react and other people having no reaction because this is an everyday thing for them. Seeing different people react differently helps because it shows that what people go through when they see a dead body for the first compared to the ninth time seeing the dead. It helps show the word what some people go through. It helps put those who do not leave or never faced any of those problems.
