Cooking in College | Pasta Night

I believe everyone should have a staple pasta dish in their food knowledge. Who knows when you could meet someone you want to sweep off their feet with a romantic dinner?

Spaghetti bolognese might not be the cleanest option, but it’s sure to be a favorite. I actually got this dish from my boyfriend’s family. It packs a lot of flavor and still uses store-bought ingredients (my fave way of preparing food).

Here are the ingredients:

-1/2 lb turkey sausage ( I grab this in the breakfast section. It gives the dish a bit more spice)

-1/2 lb of ground beef (I prefer something that has the lowest fat possible, but whichever will do)

-1 box of pasta noodles (again, any noodles will work!)

-1 jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce

-1/2 onion (I buy mine in a container that’s prechopped. You can also chop it yourself into dice sized pieces)

– 1 teaspoon of garlic

Step One: Put the meat into a skillet and brown. If it has a lot of unwanted grease, I would drain it before any other step.

Step Two: Add garlic, onion, additional spices of your choosing and the entire jar of pasta sauce. It should be on medium heat; wait for sauce to simmer/lightly boil.

Step Three: after you see bubbles, turn the heat down to low (1 or 2) and let simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step Four: While the sauce is heating up, bring a pot of water to a boil and cook pasta according to box instructions.

Step Six: assemble, and you’re finished! I like to add a vegetable as a side and fresh French bread with butter for a complete meal
