Effortless Makeup Tips for Days Spent Traveling

If your family is anything like mine, they find it necessary to drive three hours away for Thanksgiving lunch. The majority of my family live up near Chicago, and some live in central Illinois. Every year, I catch heat from my uncles for looking like I just rolled out of bed, like they forgot that I woke up at 6 A.M. to sit in the car for over three hours. This year is my year. I have spent too many Thanksgivings being asked if I need to go lay down and take a nap. Follow these tips to look awake, even if you aren’t.

  1. BB cream – a girl’s weightless best friend.

I spend the majority of the car ride asleep, so putting on a heavy foundation probably isn’t in my best interest. This Thanksgiving, I will be applying BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Creme. This versatile cream achieves dewy, sheer-to-medium coverage to give skin a radiant, soft, and smooth-looking appearance. Formulated with mineral electrolytes to help energize skin, the marine botanicals help to replenish dry skin. It contains heart-leaf globe daisy, an antioxidant which aids in protecting against environmental stressors—improving the appearance of skin while keeping it hydrated.

2. Blush

Ok so this might not be necessary – but it’s important to me and the look I want to achieve. Since I’ll be wearing a bb creme, I don’t need to load my face with setting powder, concealers, or bronzer. Instead, I will go for a subtle glow from a blush/highlight built into one compact – perfect for travel. I recommend Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Blush. Unlike traditional blush, which tends to be flat, Ambient Lighting Blush uses Photo-luminescent Technology to exhibit depth and dimension. The airy, lightweight powders contain optically transparent particles that amplify the colors to a multidimensional level, effectively reinventing the way you view blush.

3. Tinted Brow Gel

When you get up at the butt crack of dawn – no one has the time or energy to make their eyebrows on fleek. My quick tip is to skip the brow pencil and go straight to a tinted brow gel. A couple quick swipes of that bad boy instantly give brows the definition to make you look more awake. I HIGHLY recommend Anastasia Beverly Hill’s tinted brow gel. The combination of cream and gel effortlessly defines and fills in the look of brows while controlling and shaping without flaking or fading – perfect for sleeping in the car.

4. Mascara

Once again, the goal is to look awake so none of your uncles pester you around the Thanksgiving table. Mascara is a STAPLE in any girl’s makeup kit – it’s a game changer. From my previous posts, I don’t spend $40 on mascara, because to me it all looks the same. Head to your local CVS pick up any mascara by L’Oreal and get in the car. It can easily be applied in the car mirror right as your pulling up to your judgmental family’s house.

5. Lip gloss

Final step – reapply as needed. You’ve got this girlfriend. Pucker those lips and head inside with your effortless makeup look. You can thank me later. This one by Marc Jacobs is long lasting – perfect for scarfing down that turkey.

Gobble, gobble!
