JK Rowling is sorry… really

Every year on the anniversary of the “Battle of Hogwarts” J.K. Rowling apologizes for a death. This time around it was Remus Lupin

Interestingly, Rowling reveals that not only was his death not originally decided, but it seems that he died in place of Arthur Weasley.

Upon the release of Order of the Pheonix some fans, myself included, viewed Arthur living from the attack in the hall of mysteries as cheating. At this point Harry had no real knowledge of what was going on, and Arthur’s survival was largely due to chance. Apparently, Rowling felt similarly as she later traded his life for another. For me, this raises an interesting question in pondering what other famous characters may have lived or died based on what was “fair”.
