I chose to do my news story of racial profiling and stereotypes among black males. Dozens of innocent black men have been racially profiled in the public eye by police officers, and it is something that needs to be talked about. I chose this topic to give insight on what is like to be a black male in America. This subject is touchy, and it is also very near and dear to my heart. Too often are black men mistreated based on people’s prerequisites about them. They deserve just as much of a chance and opportunity to succeed as anyone else. The purpose of this video was to shine light on the way an average black male feels in America today. The two subjects I chose are both seniors at EIU, grew up in good neighborhoods, were raised by good families, and have defied the odds against them, yet they still fear that they may face harm and injustice on behalf of the law and those who are meant to enforce it.
